As Oscar Wilde once said, "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." So why not celebrate who you are by creating a personal collage that showcases the unique things that make you, you.

All you need to start is a favorite photo and some magazines or paper to cut up. Think about what you love to eat, your favorite place, your name, things you often say, how many children you have – and anything else you'd like people to know about.

This is a great 1-on-1 activity for introducing people, such as a resident to a new support worker. It gives a quick insight into who they're spending time with. It's also fun for groups, as conversations will be sparked, and stories told along the way.

Here's how to make your personal collage:
1. Explain what you're creating to the person or people you're with.
2. Invite them to browse through the magazines and pick out images or words that resonate with them.
3. Look at the images and stories, and start conversations around what you see.
4. Ask things like, "What's your favorite food?", "What job did you do?", "Where do you like to go on holiday?", and "What outfit do you love most?"
5. Cut out anything from the magazines that you like or that means something to you.
6. Keep going until you have enough material that shows who you are.
7. Glue your photo onto the middle of a piece of thick card.
8. Arrange the words and magazine cut-outs around it.
9. Fill in the gaps with handwritten words, like the name of someone special or a favorite pet.
10. Once done, you can use it to kick-start conversations with new people, or as a point of discussion for reminiscing.
If you don't have any magazines, don't worry. Just write, draw and doodle around the photo instead. The key thing is to make it as personal as possible.
